MAY 2017 SERVICE OFFICER REPORT
- VA Medical Center: No updates or changes on clinic moves at this time. Monday, May 29th please join us at Sacramento VA Veterans Plaza for the 11th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The program starts at 10 am and normally lasts less than two hours. The actual location is just in front of the old location and behind the jet display. VFW members should wear their hats and dress appropriately in Business casual, no shorts or sandals. We just completed the Reporting Year for Department statistics and during this time our volunteers contacted 108,052 veterans, contributed 2,008 volunteer hours and $3,400 for needy veterans.
- Veteran’s Benefits and Programs: The President signed into law a spending bill which will keep the government funded and running until September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.
- TRICARE News: The popular drug, Nexium, will no longer be available in TRICARE effective June 28th, 2017. Consult with your doctor to use a different drug.
- Safety Report: Spring cleanup around the home: Warmer weather has arrived and it is time to do a checkup of your home and property after a very active rainy season.
(1) Clean and check all gutters and downspouts for proper operation
(2) Check air conditioning unit to ensure it is operating properly: connections, fans, and clear away debris
(3) have a professional check the roof for any damage
(4) inspect windows and doors for gaps, cracks or other damage and seal if
necessary
(5) check for water damage or dry rot and water connections for leaks
(6) Complete a general inspection of your property to prevent a problem from
getting worse
(7) Always remember that we are no longer as young as we used to
be and should avoid getting on ladders. Hire a professional if necessary; the cost
will be much cheaper than an injury.
